Homophobia

The phrase "That's Gay" is synonymous with pop culture, and often used in a negative way. If something isn't cool, or its looked at as something a woman would do(from a male prospective)its considered "gay". Now lets look at the term "phobia". By definition it means "the fear of". So where is this fear generated from? The bible, person to person, government, or forms of entertainment? There are boards in place to sensor children from seeing images of homosexuality but they are always exposed to sex, substance abuse, violence and intense gore. Another scare tactic was groups calling AIDS the "gay disease" despite the fact that there were countless infected heterosexuals. How did things get this way?
Why the big fuss about who's gay and how they became that way? There are different theories on the matter. Among them is the oh so famous "gay gene". The gay gene is supposed< to be passed down through the generations predisposing offspring to homosexuality or making them more susceptible to it. Word?! So maybe the negro gene is the reason I'm predisposed to having cravings for red Kool-Aid and the occasional two piece special at Popeyes? Who knows…genetics is a funny thing. I too have my own theory! Mine is based on the development of the fetus. Dig it….the way I figure it, the only difference between woman and man is a single chromosome. So if you were to put both the X chromosome and the Y chromosome on opposite ends of a spectrum, who's to say as a person develops in the womb that they successfully<--made it to either side. So sure your genitalia says one thing but hormonally your character can be read as something else. You can have all of the physical attributes of a gender and the hormones of an other. Like I said, its just a theory.
A lot of television shows and music videos have become a bit more risque' with showing its viewers images of homosexual activity. Katy Perry's Firework video shows two males kissing, but it is not as socially accepted as two females kissing. How did two women kissing become "what's hot in them streets"? I don't find it to be appalling but when I see it , it doesn't exactly make me wanna go grab popcorn and howl to the moon. Hey, to each his or her own.
I think we all are aware that kissing does lead to other things but the male mind cant see the act being complete without(drum roll please….) penetration of some sort:which gives the homosexuals a "leg up" over the lesbians*in the barbaric male mind*(well...more like an "appendage up" I guess :-P)<---A poor attempt at humor!
Being a heterosexual black male, I know that some of the most homophobic people on the planet are young black males. Though the number of black gay males is high, it changes nothing. The average< black male has ,in some form or fashion, embraced the hip-hop culture which completely frowns upon homosexual activity. Hip-hop's homophobia is somewhat ironic because a lot of the "gangsta rappers" brag about time behind bars, etc.,but I saw Scared Straight(even the title contains a mild sense of irony)on MTV and a lot of the content could not be accomplished unless ones man hood was compromised at some point. Not exactly heterosexual activity/behavior …just saying'! And on the other half of the entertainment spectrum you have the Skater/Rockers of JackAss that dabble with anal penetrating, male genitalia based antics, as raunchy humor and entertainment. Don't get me wrong, Im not saying what the Jack Ass crew is doing is homosexual activity, but a golden dildo penetrating an unsuspecting homie and laughing about it…(sigh). Perhaps that's the reason, statistically speaking, why more black homosexual males attempt to keep their sexuality a secret longer than men of other races.
We wouldn't have to sensor the kids if they are well informed and understand what's going on around them. With most of us everything dealings with the opposite sex and sexuality plain black or white, but the world is changing everyday. Who knew that one day the fine line dividing the black or white would be a rainbow instead of a gray area others were scared to acknowledge?

((good read btw))
What I don't like: Well as someone said the posts can use paragraph breaks. Also the post as a whole does read as coherent. It seems like you're jumping around in your head, so that can be changed in the editing process. When you mentioned homophobia being "phobia" it really reduces the broad nature of gay antipathy. As racism is not just you know jim crow laws, but also hanging black people from trees, and telling us our hair is nappy. Homophobia encompasses a range of attitudes, values, beliefs, and actions. It's as you say saying "that's so gay," and it's churches trying to pray the gay away, and it's in the horrible instances it happens, harming and killing gays. When you mention the double standard of male and female homosexuality you fail to recognize the underlying misogyny, and the underlying viewing of women as sexual objects. Even your link of gay to be things that women do doesn't examine the overwhelming hatred of all things feminine and womanly in that statement. As far as sexual orientation being genetic or choice, scientist have yet to prove that ANY OF US are born with a sexual orientation or whether ANY OF US CHOOSE. Although the science seems to point towards it being a mixture of both.
Overall, decent post. You have a long way to go, but this is a nice start and it definitely takes courage to write about this issue because so few want to talk about it.
I think this was great! A lot of what you said made a lot of sense and was well thought out.
Kudos!
